GeoQuest. The Next Chapter.

Waves and mountains are the essence of GeoQuest, and the new logo reflects that. It captures the landscapes, terrain and journey that have always been central to the race, while signalling the start of a new chapter for one of Australia's longest-running adventure races.

GeoQuest is back for 2027, with a new format, new destinations and a return to the June long weekend.

Over the past few weeks, we've received an extraordinary amount of feedback about the future of GeoQuest.

The message has been clear. There is still a huge amount of passion for this race, for what it represents, and for what GeoQuest could become next.

After 23 editions, we genuinely enjoyed delivering one final GeoQuest in the format that has defined the event over recent years. Forster was a fitting way to close that chapter and reminded us exactly why this race has meant so much to the Australian adventure racing community.

But GeoQuest has never stood still.

Over more than two decades, the race has evolved constantly. From the South Coast to the Mid North Coast of NSW, teams of four with dedicated support crews, hybrid supported and unsupported formats, and even the days when competitors had to organise and transport their own boats.

The race has changed because adventure racing has changed.

And now it's time for GeoQuest to evolve again.

To mark the occasion, we're also introducing a new GeoQuest logo. A fresh identity for the next chapter of one of Australia's longest-running adventure races.

Beach trek to finish or ocean paddle to start? Or perhaps both?

Either way, at least one leg of GeoQuest 2027 will feature this view. The rest of the course will take teams deep into the wilds of the Gold Coast and Northern NSW hinterland.

We're looking forward to showing you just how much ground we can cover in 48 hours.

GeoQuest 2027. Welcome To Currumbin.

We're excited to announce that GeoQuest 2027 is heading to Currumbin on Queensland's Gold Coast, 12–14 June 2027, continuing the tradition of racing over the June long weekend.

With coastal waterways, subtropical rainforest and the mountains of the Gold Coast hinterland, Currumbin offers an exciting base for a genuine 48-hour expedition.

And this is just the beginning.

A New Destination Every Year

GeoQuest will no longer be tied to its traditional Mid North Coast location. Instead, we're opening up the entire East Coast of Australia and perhaps beyond, giving us the freedom to explore some truly extraordinary landscapes.

Our destination selection will be guided by two important principles.

First, the adventure. We're looking for spectacular landscapes and challenging terrain that can only be fully explored through a 48-hour expedition. Places where we can take teams further than a traditional 24-hour race, into remote country and across substantial distances.

We may occasionally revisit regions used for our 24-hour events, but GeoQuest will offer an entirely different experience.

Second, accessibility. We'll aim to keep destinations within one to two hours of a major transport hub, making it easier and more affordable for teams to travel from around Australia.

After 23 editions, some teams have proudly told us they've paddled every river and run every beach on the Mid North Coast! It's a remarkable legacy, and something we're incredibly proud of.

But there's still so much more of Australia to explore, and we're excited to see where the next chapter takes us.

48 Hours. The Sweet Spot.

One of the strongest messages from the community was the importance of retaining the 48-hour format.

For many teams, GeoQuest represents a natural progression from 24-hour adventure racing towards full expedition-length events. It's long enough to experience the challenges of racing through multiple days and nights, managing sleep, nutrition, navigation and teamwork, without the commitment required for a six-day expedition.

We agree. The 48-hour format is part of what makes GeoQuest special, and it will remain at the heart of the event.

It also gives us the freedom to design courses that travel further, explore more remote terrain and deliver the kind of genuine expedition experience that simply isn't possible in 24 hours.

Fully Unsupported Racing

GeoQuest will move to a fully unsupported format.

No dedicated support crews. No outside assistance. Just your team, your equipment and the course ahead.

This creates a more level playing field and makes interstate travel significantly easier, without the expense and logistics of bringing a support crew.

And yes, we've heard you on the boats!

Kayaks will continue to be supplied by the event. Teams won't need to organise or transport their own boats.

However, we will occasionally introduce packrafting into the full course, opening up some exciting new possibilities for course design and remote wilderness travel.

The Grand Final Of The Wild&Co 24-Hour Series

GeoQuest will continue to take its place as Australia's premier adventure race, and from 2027 it will also become the grand final of the Wild&Co 24-hour series.

We're introducing a new pathway connecting our 24-hour races, GeoQuest and Legend Expedition Race.

Starting in 2027:

  • Win your category at a Wild&Co 24-hour race and receive free entry to GeoQuest.

  • Win your category at GeoQuest and receive free entry to Legend Expedition Race.

It's a progression from 24-hour racing to a 48-hour expedition and ultimately to a full expedition-length adventure.

A chance to test yourself, step up to the next level and earn your place at Australia's biggest and toughest adventure racing events.
