Wild&Co adventure races involve multiple disciplines and shared equipment logistics. This page outlines what equipment is provided, what teams need to bring, and how kayak and bike logistics are managed across different event formats.
Event-specific details and any variations will always be confirmed in the Race Information Kit, released approximately one week prior to the event.
Kayaks
For Wild&Co adventure races, kayaks are provided as part of race entry unless explicitly stated otherwise.
The standard kayaks used across Wild&Co events are plastic sit-on-top double kayaks, typically Mission Surge 2+1models or equivalent.
Kayak Specifications (Indicative)
Double sit-on-top design
Approx. 4.0–4.2 m in length
Approx. 85 cm wide
Approx. 25 kg
No rudder
Rear gear area with elastic straps
These kayaks are selected for stability, durability and suitability across a wide range of paddling environments.
Kayak Use & Logistics
Race organisers manage kayak logistics throughout the event.
Kayaks are positioned at the start of each kayak leg
Kayaks are collected by organisers at the end of each kayak leg
Teams will not necessarily use the same kayak for each paddling leg
All personal equipment must be removed from the kayak at the end of each leg
Teams should not leave any gear attached to or inside kayaks between legs.
Paddles & Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)
Explore Series Events
For Explore Series events, kayaks, paddles and PFDs are typically included as part of race entry.
Any variations or exceptions will be clearly outlined in the Race Information Kit.
24–48 Hour & Expedition Events
For 24–48 hour and Expedition events:
Kayaks are provided
Paddles and PFDs are not provided as standard
Teams must:
bring their own paddles and PFDs, or
hire paddles and PFDs through Wild&Co
Hire details, pricing and order instructions are provided in the Race Information Kit.
Pre-order is required to ensure sufficient equipment is available.
Hired paddles and PFDs will be available at the start of each kayak leg.
Teams using hire equipment do not need to transport or manage paddles or PFDs between legs.
Hired equipment must be returned at the end of the event or as instructed by race officials.
Bikes
Mountain biking is a core discipline in all Wild&Co adventure races.
Recommended Bike Type
Courses are designed around the use of a mountain bike, with terrain typically including:
fire trails and gravel roads
unsealed and sealed roads
cross-country terrain and singletrack
steep climbs, descents and occasional hike-a-bike sections
Teams may choose to ride gravel bikes or hybrid bikes; however, these may be less suitable depending on terrain and course design. Teams choosing non-mountain bikes do so at their own discretion.
E-bikes are not permitted in any Wild&Co adventure race.
Bike Logistics
Bike transport and storage requirements vary by event format and are outlined in detail on the Mandatory Gear & Logistics page.
Where bike drops or bike boxes are required:
details will be provided in the Race Information Kit
locations and timing will be clearly specified
teams must follow all instructions to ensure smooth logistics and safety
Bike Security
Bike drop areas are located in relatively safe, low-traffic locations and are monitored by volunteers where possible. These volunteers are not paid security officers.
Teams concerned about bike security are encouraged to bring a bike lock and lock team bikes together for peace of mind.
Final Notes
Always refer to the Race Information Kit for event-specific instructions
Mandatory safety equipment requirements are listed on the Mandatory Gear page
